So bottom line, it's worth the effort if you can get native DSD to play. I mistakenly assumed PCM would be indistinguishable from DSD on such a modest system. I was quite surprised at the improvement. My speakers are just KEF LS50 with a KEF subwoofer. There is no best, just a series of trade offs that are highly subjective. DSD only matters if you have a DSD capable DAC. When I use the Heos method there is a noticeable improvement with the sound quality (fuller soundstage, clearer details). I suggest you do the free trials of Audirvana and Amarra 4 Luxe and decide for yourself. The Denon showed a PCM signal at 88.2kHz.Īfter using this method for almost 2 years I just recently discovered that the Denon's built in Heos app can play DSD files natively. I used the optical port from both devices to my Denon AVR X3400h. I say this because I've been using this method with both a Touch and a pCP with a HiBerry Digi hat. However, depending on your system you may notice a degradation with sound quality when the pCP converts to PCM. Hope it can help.I've gone through the same steps. The problem is that not always the player\DAC support high bitrate DoP ![]() To play as native DSD got to Tools>Options and in the Settings section. There is a "pacth" to be applied that enable the native streaming of DSD without ebedding in PCM but anyway it is planned in a future realese of pCP the native support of DSDĪnyway there is no problem to play DSD over PCM ( DoP ). bit perfect playback of audio files (including high sample rate, 24 bit and DSD. If you enable the DSDPlayer plugin, then pCP stream to the DAC the DSD embedding the DSD stream in PCM In other words: if you do not eneable the DSDPLayer plugin, you can not play DSD files. I have a quite similar problem and I already post a question and got a feedback Is there a way to manually tell it to transcode to PCM? The DAC is a Schiit Modi USB DAC. However, I don't think my DAC supports native playback of DSD files. DSD-over-PCM should be configured on the player configuration interface.". In looking in the LMS Server Settings, under DSDPlayer, it says: "This player supports native playback of DSD files. ![]() I have tried enabling DSDPlayer, and it seems to try to play DSD files, but no audio. PCM up to 32bit 384kHz, native DSD512, DXD and even MQA, the DAC / iFi. Luckily mine are all still functioning so I still have that option at least for a while.I have piCorePlayer working fine for most things. Headphone Amplifier / DAC Burr Brown BitPerfect PCM1793 32bit 384kHz DSD256 MQA. There is no other remote app that offers the functionality and ease of use of this one, but it only works with Squeezebox which Logitech has discontinued. ![]() As usual, BitPerfect 3.1 is a free upgrade to all existing BitPerfect users. BitPerfect now supports native playback of DSD files. BitPerfect integrates with iTunes to improve sound quality. Native is a promise of finding the place that fits the personality, through the power of informed intuition. BitPerfect is a high-quality music player for 64-bit Intel Macs running OS X 10.7 and upwards (Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, Yosemite, El Capitan, or Sierra). For me, the easiest and best user interface is iPeng controlling Logitech Media Server for my Squeezeboxes. Native is more than just ‘executive search’. Amarra recommended I try Splashtop to use as a remote app with that player, so I am trying that out as well. ![]() I do like the JRiver Remote app better than using the iTunes remote app which you have to use to control Pure Music or BitPerfect from your iPad or iPhone device. I only just purchased Amarra so can't yet tell if I will find the GUI easy or crazy. I was getting dropouts with BitPerfect and discovered it was my DAC. These are created from the DSD and DXD editions of these albums using the unique Zephiir conversion process. By cobntrast I find Pure Music and BitPerfect really easy to use. In the year 2020, the Canadian company BitPerfect provided the software NativeDSD uses to convert DSD Stereo and DSD Multichannel files to 24/96 and 24/192 FLAC for listeners interested in those music formats. For instance, I have difficulty with the logic and features of JRiver even though it's a lot of people's favorite player. Some I find much easier to operate than others. However, the user interfaces are vastly different. I am hard pressed to "hear" differences between playback on these various players. However, when using the digital input, with arecord there also is no signal being recorded. 96kHz not in S243LE, though, but thats fine. I have been trying BitPerfect, JRiver Media Center 19 for Mac, Pure Music 2.0, and most recently got Amarra 3.0. When connecting the analog signal directly to the USB card, arecord records fine at 44.1, 48 and 96 kHz, as expected.
