![]() Dolenz liked this version of the song, deeming it similar to the music of Coldplay. Harris decided to help Dolenz record his own version of “Sugar, Sugar” for his 2012 album Remember. Eventually, Dolenz relayed the anecdote about his band rejecting the song to producer David Harris. A member of the Monkees records ‘Sugar, Sugar’Īccording to MusicRadar, the connection between the Monkees and “Sugar, Sugar” did not end in the 1960s. Had the Prefab Four recorded it, it would have been precisely the sort of smash they needed to keep them commercially relevant. 1 hit in Belgium, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. NPR reports “Sugar, Sugar” became the most successful song on the Billboard charts in 1969. If the Prefab Four really did lose out on the opportunity to record the track, it was a real waste, particularly since they struggled after their television show was canceled in 1968. RELATED: The Monkees Had 1 Hit in the 1980s and Davy Jones Wouldn’t Sing It How the Archies’ ‘Sugar, Sugar’ performed commercially compared to Monkees songsĪccording to the book Long Title: Looking for the Good Times Examining the Monkees’ Songs, One by One, “Sugar, Sugar” became a bigger hit than most of the Monkees’ other hits. Don Kirschner got fired, but then he recorded the song with the Archies.” Kirschner joked the Archies wouldn’t talk back to him - after all, they were a cartoon band. I didn’t go to the session – I’d gone to England, and that’s when I met the Beatles. That’s when Mike Nesmith led the palace revolt and we fought for the right to have at least some sort of control over the music. “As you know, Don Kirschner presented that as tune,” Dolenz said. Specifically, Micky Dolenz told MusicRadar the Prefab Four made the decision not to record “Sugar, Sugar.” Some claim this is just a rumor, but Dolenz is setting the record straight. Interestingly, the Archies might not be the same if not for a decision the Monkees made. In addition, they each produced enduringly popular hit songs even though they were only famous for a brief period of time. Both are bubblegum pop groups that originated in kid-friendly 1960s sitcoms. The Monkees and the Archies have plenty in common. The Monkees | James Jackson/Evening Standard/Getty Images Why a firing sealed the fate of ‘Sugar, Sugar’

![]() _ratingControlOptions = new RatingControlOptions Public RatingControlViewComponent(IConfiguration config) Private readonly RatingControlOptions _ratingControlOptions = Component.InvokeAsync("RatingControl", new Here is the full RatingDemoInvokeAsync.cshtml. The sign switches the Razor view page to C#, then what follows is just C# code. Basically, we are just using the capabilities of Razor here. The file itself uses the Component method InvokeAsync, which references the View Component name with its first parameter, and to get parameters into that method expects an anonymous class as it's second parameter. I've created a new Razor view page called RatingDemoInvokeAsync shown here in the solution explorer. To have that View Component do anything for us, we can put it on a Razor page. Using Our View Component on a Razor Page with InvokeAsyncĪt this point, we have a full View Component. The first line says that the model type passed in is just a string, and the second line renders that string wrapped in an h2. The Razor View file, Default.cshtml is just two lines. Return View("Default", ratingControlType) Public IViewComponentResult Invoke(string ratingControlType) Public class RatingControlViewComponent : ViewComponent You can think of these values as the model.īelow is our simple View Component that simply passes a single parameter when invoked (ratingControlType), then passes that parameter as the model to a default.cshtml Razor View. Unlike typical Razor pages that are invoked from a controller and take model parameters as input, View Components are invoked directly by calling the class method Invoke or InvokeAsync, with values. In our case, I'm going to just explicitly create mine, which derives from the class ViewComponent, it has an empty constructor and an Invoke method with just one parameter. There are several ways you can create a view control based on attributes and naming conventions. ![]() Because a View Component typically has both a C# file and a Razor View Page, let's create a new directory in our Components directory called RatingControl, and in that directory, create two files: RatingControlViewComponent.cs and Default.cshtml. In this article, we are going to develop a very useful View Component that can be used over and over in a page for doing ratings. The directory structure scaffolded for us contains a directory called "Pages" and in that, we'll create a new folder in which we will create a new View Component (that's really the point of this article). The first step is to create a new ASP.NET Core 2.1 website.įor the type of Web App, we'll choose "Web Application," which will create a nice simple site using the new ASP.NET Core Razor Pages. I could just as easily use the command line tools (dotnet) to create the app on either Windows or Mac, but I've chosen to use Visual Studio. If you would like to follow along, all the source code used in this article is hosted on GitHub at:įor those more visually inclined, an eight minute video is also available that shows the steps outlined in this article.įor this article, I'm going to use Visual Studio 2017 to create an ASP.NET Core 2.1 website. Just like ASP.NET MVC Controllers, View Components are easily testable, as they can be written to have no side effects, which means less bugs. ![]() They are generated from a C# class derived from the base class ViewComponent and are typically associated with a Razor file to generate markup.īecause of this, View Components nicely separate and encapsulate server-side logic necessary to render output. View Components are completely self-contained objects that consistently render html from a Razor view. View Components are new to ASP.NET Core and are designed to do everything that a Partial View in previous versions of ASP.NET did and more. With View Components, you control what gets shared to your View Components. This means that a Partial View may behave very differently on one Razor page than on another. ![]() Why use View Components and not Partial Views? The biggest reason is that when inserting a Partial View into a Razor page, all the ViewData associated with the calling View is automatically associated with the Partial View. Learn why you should use View Components - and not Partial Views - in your ASP.NET Core projects with this hands-on example. ![]() Large doses of the vitamin, when ingested, have no reported side effects and massive doses (e.g., 10 g/day) may only yield mild intestinal distress, and diarrhea at worst. It’s not exactly a sandbox, but there is a certain amount of freedom involved and it lets you get used to the handling, or test out a new bike to see how it feels. The Compound is an open track in the countryside, where you can ride around at your leisure, in any direction. And if you get bored of doing that in a racing environment, there’s the Compound to fall back on. There’s a certain excitement to jumping around muddy tracks on fast bikes, and here is no different. ![]() It’s a lot more enjoyable than games like Ride and its sequel though, as it isn’t as boredom-inducing, and there are still aspects of dirtbike racing that appeal to most people. It’s still a niche game, based on a sport that doesn’t get the same attention as MotoGP or any of its four-wheeled cousins. ![]() ![]() That doesn’t mean that everyone will definitely enjoy MXGP3. The handling doesn’t hinder you though, as it remains responsive at all times, with just the right amount of realism to keep it faithful to the sport, but an ever-so-slight arcadey edge that allows anyone to enjoy the racing. It isn’t quite Gran Turismo bad, but it does still get in the way as it stubbornly leans into a corner that’s already occupied by several other riders. I won’t lie, the AI is pretty basic, but it still fights for position and it keeps things from growing stale. Whether you go for the full realism of Pro handling, or stick with the standard model for a simpler, more accessible (and less crashy) gameplay experience, you’ll still have to battle both the AI opponents and physics. Races themselves are exciting too, no matter how you choose to play. It would just look much better without the odd blurriness over everything. No mean feat when there are 22 riders in an event. That’s not to say it’s a particularly bad looking game, as the stadium circuits are quite detailed, so are the bikes that churn up the dirt beneath their wheels. This is made even worse during rainfall, when the impossibly large droplets do their best to stop you seeing anything at all, and if you’ll forgive the awful word play, the muddied visuals become even more pronounced. From the moment the camera pans across your first race destination (after the excessive loading times, I might add), the Vaseline-smeared graphical style is immediately apparent. The presentation is dull, its menus devoid of personality, and its visuals are all over the shop. That being said, MXGP3 is lacking the quality of last year’s MotoGP game. The slower bikes let you get a feel for the handling, letting you naturally progress in skill before moving up to the MXGP class where things really get going. Working your way up from the bottom is the best way to start these games, the best way to start almost any sim racer actually, as it allows you to ease into the game and learn the ropes. Much like its Valentino Rossi MotoGP game, Milestone offers another two-wheeled experience that offers something a little more than simply giving you the same old trudge through the licensed season. From finding a sponsor and a team in the MX2 class, to climbing the ladder and winning the MXGP championship, it’s all here in Milestone’s game. But then, that’s not at all what MXGP3 attempts to be, instead it’s doing its damnedest to faithfully recreate the realism of the biggest series in motocross. ![]() Well, being blunt, I didn’t get what I hoped for. But when MXGP3 was dropped into my lap (metaphorically, at least) I let myself hope for something that would rekindle that old love for the original Motocross Madness games.
